Hello everybody, i\'m a real fan of SDS5 drum (along many synths of 80\'s &
70\'s), and my dream is to get one in mint condition (no money at the moment).
In the meanwhile, I searched for (virtual) substitutes, finding only digital
sampled one (see goodies sect.). So I programmed a virtual SDS-V, that sounds
pretty satisfactory (i compared it to original samples),
that reproduces and follows the original rack knobs.
My problem is that i couldn\' t find exhaustive infos about click and rim shot
generations. I would really appreciate if
someone is able to give me those infos (better with block diagrams NOT
schematics). Of course, i will make available to
anyone is interested my results. Next project is to create a SDSVi rack,
playable from custom made replica pads. Cheers

This is a picture of me playing the SDS-8 in 1985.

Great site. Those kits still have a great look and I hope one day that Dave
Simmons make another kit with mesh heads, but keep the same classic futurist
look that has never been bettered.

Cheers, Ray

Hi,
Download the SDS800 manual (which is for the SDS400 as well). On page 16 in the PDF (which is page 24 printed within the document) you find how the plug needs to be wired. Should be pretty easy to build an adaptor

I just posted a new music video that features my Simmons SDS8 kit if anyone
would like to check it out. I decided on the SDS8 model after browsing this
site. Thanks for all the great info!

Is it possible to take apart SDS8 pads? My bass drum isn\'t triggering all too
well, anyone with troubleshooting tips? Thanks in advance

comment:
Hi Danny,
it\'s quite easy to replace the tranducer. The shell is fixed by a stapler to the main wooden plate. Pull out the clips, take of the shell, replace the tranducer and fix the shell again and that\'s it. A transducer only costs 2-5 Euros/USD/whatever

Hello. Do you, or anyone you know buy Simmons kits and bits? Thanks you.
comment:
Hi,
most asked question (about time for an FAQ area...). Ebay offers most parts for most money. As Simmons is vintage stuff, you need patience, money and luck
So I wish you patinece, money and luck

hey, stumbled on this by accident, like you these bit me in the 80\'s. I
currently have 2 kits ive made out of bits ...very multi coloured! quick
qusestion the black plastic on edges and rims is going white with age on some of
the pads, have you found a good method of getting rid of it also what do you use
to polish out marks/scratches? any advice gladly accepted.Dont you just love
ebay!

comment:
Hi Pete,
it seems that the black frames bleach out over the years, at least if the plastic is not stored in a dark environment. So it is unfortunately not a matter of polishing. If you intend to bring them back to black, you have to paint them. I have already tried several polishing fluids, but nothing helped. What I have not tried yet is a polishing liquid with black pigments which you normaly use if you try to restore old black car lacquer. This might be worth an approach.

Hello from Austria!
Today I bought a used ADT Drum Trigger Module and I am looking for a manual.
Thanks for your ADT Spec sheet, but do you also have a scan of the manual? I
have lots of manuals in exchange - maybe something you need in exchange.

Ciao
Peter

comment:
Hi,
unfortunately not. The ADT is tricky to configure and I would be glad if somebody cound provide a copy that we could share through this site

Oh good ! I hope you are doing well. I heard that if you connect the SDX to your
chest via midi it will monitor the heart rate. Is this true ? : )

comment:
not necessarily. The SDX is known to share the moods of it\'s owner by telepathy. So no midi required
